The hospital night shift is the strangest thing.
Ruby lies fast asleep. I do too most nights. And the nurse creeps in and out all night topping up the drip with medicines.
Sometimes the door opening wakes me or their torch shines in my eyes.
Most nights the beeping machines wake me up.
If Ruby has a fever they have to check her every hour. That means zero sleep. No fever means Ruby gets checked every four hours. More sleep.
The nurses set their alarms so they don’t miss a medicine or check up.
Night nurses are amazing. Thank you every single one for your continued care and love.
